How we care for the puppies before they join their families
We assure your new puppy is in exceptional health from the day of conception. Our dogs diet consists of Purina One's Chicken and rice large breed food, with the exceptions of some human food. They have up-to-date shots and annually wormed. Our dogs are not in kennels or cages unless we go to non pet friendly destinations; so they get plenty of exercise. Expecting females are under close watch and limited 'rough' play. We make certain they get the right amount of love and attention they need to not only be physically healthy but mentally as well.
At the moment of birth the puppies will be handled and snuggled. After all the loving the puppies will visit the vet for their first time within 3 days. The first visit is an overall checkup, the docking of the tail and removal of the front and rear dewclaws. At five weeks the puppies will get their first shot. Shortly after the ears will be cropped to the adoptive parents preference if at all. A follow up appointment will be set for the ears with my vet for precaution but you are free to use your own vet if preferred. All puppies will be wormed before joining their new families.
Although we care and love the puppies from day one we still encourage you to take them to your vet as well for a check-up. Set up vaccination and worming cycles with your vet. If stitches still remain in the puppies ears you will need to take them to the vet for removal. Make sure you feed your puppy a good nutritious food so they can grow to be big and strong, multiple meals a day will be necessary. I recommend Blue Buffalo large breed puppy formula or for a lower budget Purina One large breed puppy chow is great as well. Allow your puppy plenty of play time but nothing too strenuous; you don't want to hinder their growth. Carry your puppy down stairs for a couple months; the physical motion of stairs is hard on the joints of a large breed dog. Your new puppy will be a playful bundle of joy so make sure you dedicate plenty of time to play and love them.
Typically puppies are ready to go to their new home at eight weeks, until then we strongly encourage frequent visits of the adoptive families.
